2016 — FLUX + FLO: Feminist Board Game
My Role: (Student work) Concept, Design and Execution

If social inequalities were measured geographically, how far apart would we be? There are many structures in our culture that dived and alienate us, keeping us (metaphorically) on separate islands. Though feminists have made grand historical changes throughout the history of the United States, there remains an ever-flow of inequality. FLUX AND FLO is a vibrant and colorful game that gives a visual metaphor to how dangerous inequality can be to human kind while informing it’s players about the history of feminism. When the main island piece is placed in the center of the game board, it has the appearance of a stylized scull with four supporting game board tracks representing cross bones. The game pieces reference Capitalism with their color coded business sign theme: Professional Island - the color or money, Social Island - warm and inviting, Body Island - lusty yet powerful, and Political Island - cold yet Democratic. The “Flo” cards, which represent the consistent clash of these four structures contain either a positive or negative historical feminist fact that affect the targeted island’s position on the playing board accordingly.

The “Flux” cards are played as a counter-move, which pay homage to feminist activism, There is no one winner and the game will only end when each island reaches the center of the board, as the goal of the game is equality.
